When it all gets a bit too much

source: chibird.com

I've been a bit quiet of late.

Moving house, sorting out bills and furniture, unpacking and having to deal with little niggles and problems we've had with the flat, working towards deadlines and having drama at work...my well-being and physical state has been beaten to a pulp recently.

Generally, I don't like talking about negativity, but as of life, we get ups and downs. I thought I'd jot down a few things that we (but, I mostly) should remember, when times get difficult.

  • Don't waste your energy (or lose your mind) over things you can't change. You can't change anything by fretting or stressing. You can't change the outcome of things by worrying, what will be, will be.
  • All you can do, is your best. You may never be No.1 in all aspects of life, but it's ok. All you can do, is do your thing...and that's just ok.
  • I had some crap news that affected me recently, and it all got a bit too much. For the first few days, I felt entirely deflated and kept thinking it was because of me, who I was. When in fact, the situation was much bigger than that, and it wasn't personal. Take the time to take a step back and realise it's not you. Don't for one second its a reflection of your ability or you as a person, just shit happens sometimes. What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. Stay true to you.
  • Reach out and lean on your good friends who will lend a ear (or shoulder) to cry on.
  • This leads nicely to my next point, it's good to have some release. Cry. Bawl. Scream. Don't pent it all inside...it will come back to bite you in the arse.
  • Do something to make you happy. Listen to D'Angelo (I would recommend Untitled (How Does It Feel). Or knit, sew, play The Sims. Do something that makes you happy, screw what everyone else thinks. (For me? I play that Kardashian game on my iPhone. No shame. It's awful, but it's good mind rehab).
  • Breathe... nothing is ever as bad as it seems. You can get through it. You are strong enough.

Remember, it can only get better.
