7 ways to improve your wellbeing

First off, don't worry.

I'm not going to turn into some guru that only spouts advice that the only way to feel good is by doing nothing but yoga and changing to a strict vegan, quinoa based diet (blahhh! Although if you want to try it, be my guest but I'll stick to me cheese - you gotta have balance!)

But, I wanted to share some ways that have helped me feel good, in which, has made me happier and calmer.

Doing these things at least once during the week has made me feel so much better. We always spend way too much time attached to our desks/phone/laptops that it's good to just take a few moments for yourself.

So, here are some ways to improve your mood, and to feeling good.

Listening to podcasts

Seriously, I can't believe I only got into podcasts within the last 6 months or so, but listening to these whilst going for a jog, or during the commute to work can make what is usually a meh activity into a fun one. Sometimes I prefer listening to podcasts when I've grown tired of my Spotify playlists and just need to listen to something else.

I'm going to list a few of my favourites:

Casefile - This is damn good. If you love crime stories, this is the one. The host is anonymous (which adds to the creepy effect), and has a thick aussie accent. Some of stories are quite chilling, but you'll be hooked.

The High Low - The hosts are by two of my favourite writers, Pandora Sykes and Dolly Alderton. They speak about everything and anything - high and low (hence, the title). I look forward to every Thursday morning to the new episode and it's just the type of content that appeals to the millenial gal.

TED Talks Daily - I love how these podcasts are quite short, but it always gets you thinking. Hosted by different speakers, recent topics include Women in Hollywood, stories that shaped Africa, and dealing with depression.

Badass Women's Hour - Hosted by trio Harriet Minter, Natalie Campbell and Emma Sexton, this podcast talks about women's issues and also features my favourite segment 'Backdated badass' which showcases important women of the past who have helped shaped our world.

Read

I know a lot of people manage fitting in reading into their day just fine, but this is something I really struggle with (I read a lot of online blogs/magazines in my spare time and articles for my day job, that counts right?!)

But so far, I struggle to get through a book a year let alone a month (which is my goal!).

So I make sure to put away some time to do some reading, even if its just 15minutes. My way of unwinding before bed.

Switch off the phone

I love Instagram. Facebook and those damn food videos from Tasty are my ultimate downfall. Sometimes C and I will be in front of the telly just scrolling, scrolling and before you know it, we've wasted an hour.

So I make it a rule to put my phone onto airplane mode once it's 10pm so I can't spiral down the meme tunnel...

Listen to a musical

Watched a musical, and then fall in love with the music.

Get on Spotify, and get on that playlist. Listen to the score, the soundtrack. Anything that makes your heart flutter and makes you want to dance down the street and burst out in song. Cheesy but it's so good to just live in that 'dream' moment sometimes where you immerse yourself into the music.

My current favourite? LA LA Land.

Exercise

Over the last month or so I've made a concious effort to eat better and to keep up with going to gym classes and I can't tell you how much better I feel just going. Being active and getting the blood pumping is the way.

I may not be doing INSANITY or punishing myself with a good HIIT session, but even a low intense Pilates class can make me feel much better.

Good for the mind, good for the body.

Call up the bestie

Sometimes you can't beat a good natter.

It's fine whatsapping during the day but sometimes picking up the phone and giving them a call, even if it's just to tell them how much you love them, is the way.

They'll feel good and sharing the love is always a good thing.

Bake

Not the bad, fatty, sugary stuff.

Look into some of these delicious treats, healthy and definitely treat worthy!

Flourless chocolate chip zucchini banana muffins

Practically Flourless Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites

One bowl greek yogurt apple oat bread

Now that I've shared with you, what makes you happy?
